On July 29 and 30, Stoel Rives attorney Mike Mills and I (Robin Seifried) will speak at a conference on Hydraulic Fracturing in California. The conference will take place at the DoubleTree Guest Suites Santa Monica Hotel in Santa Monica, CA. Click here for more information about the conference and registration.
Mike Mills is the program co-chair and will talk about the nature and scope of California’s regulation of oil and gas production, the basics of hydraulic fracturing technology, and the promise it holds for developing the Monterey Shale and enhancing California’s economy.
I will speak about fracking wastewater management and disposal. My presentation will discuss how these issues are addressed under current regulations and under proposals for further regulation, including the Department of Conservation’s Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources draft rules and proposals before state and federal lawmakers. I will focus on the risks generally recognized by experts in the field, particularly relating to the onsite storage of fracking wastewater and its disposal by injection.
